Parent Bulletin — Solihull Sixth Form College

Parent Bulletin

Keep up to date with what’s going on at the College. This Bulletin will be regularly updated with key dates and information we think parents need to know.

20/03/20: The College is closing for formal lessons at 4.00pm today and distance learning will take the place of on-campus learning from Monday 23 March. This has created many challenges and raised many questions. Staff have been working hard to make sure that these challenges are addressed and that questions are answered. We have set up an Announcements page where you can keep up-to-date with the latest developments. There is also a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page too.

16/03/20: There is a letter from Summit Learning Trust CEO Catherine Anwar going out to all students and parents today.

12/03/20:  A letter regarding Coronavirus (Covid-19) is being sent out today to students and parents, reminding students what action to take if they feel unwell and asking students to ensure their personal and College email addresses are working and being checked, should we need to communicate with students in this way.

10/03/20:  Despite today’s industrial action, the College will remain open on Tuesday 10 March. There will be some disruption to lessons, but the LRC and Refectory will be open to students all day.

04/03/20:  Reminder to parents that you have until Friday 13 March to complete the Parents’ & Carers’ annual questionnaire. Check your email for the link or email the Marketing Office is you did not receive this email.

27/02/20: Despite today’s National Education Union strike (Thursday 27 February), the College is open today. There is some disruption to classes, but the Learning Resource Centre is open for students to complete independent study if their lessons are not going ahead and the Refectory will be open all day.

26/02/20: In light of recent reports in the media, the College has sent a letter to students and parents with some public health advice concerning coronavirus. Rest assured there is no cause for concern at the College, which remains open.

24/02/20: On Thursday 27 February, the National Education Union is planning a day of industrial action, targeted at the Secretary of State for Education about the poor level of funding that the government provides for post-16 students. The purpose of the strike is to cause disruption. The College does not know which classes will be affected at this time, but will keep students informed via Tyber as soon as we know the scale of the strike.

21/02/20: On Monday 24 February, an email will be going out to parents for whom we have an email address, requesting participation in a parents’/carers’ opinion questionnaire. Please look out for that email. If we do not have your email address and you wish to participate please email the Marketing Office. Parental contact information can be added to Tyber by students at any time.

12/02/20: Despite the National Education Union’s planned strike action, the College will remain open today (Wednesday 12 February). We apologise for the disruption to some classes, but study space is available to students in the Learning Resource Centre & the Refectory will be open.

10/02/20: Ofsted is inspecting the College on Tuesday 11 – Friday 14 February 2020. Parents for whom we have an email address have been contacted by email with a link to an Ofsted Questionnaire we would like parents to complete. The deadline to complete this survey is 11.00am on Wednesday 12 October, so inspectors have time to incorporate your views into their report. Thank you for your support.
