Visual Arts Visit to Manchester — Solihull Sixth Form College

Visual Arts Visit to Manchester

Visual Arts students at Solihull Sixth Form College took a trip to Manchester last week to visit a series of art galleries to inspire learners in the creation of their own artwork.

A group of A level students, studying a variety of Art pathways, including Fine Art, Graphics & 3D Design and Photography, went on the fieldtrip and visited three fantastic institutions including Manchester City Art Gallery, Home Contemporary Art Gallery and Whitworth Art Gallery. Learners explored the museums and the exhibitions independently and had teacher-led activities to complete. While at the Home Gallery, learners had a talk from the curator there, offering them a fantastic insight into the exhibits they saw.

Creative Arts Curriculum Leader Zoe Maksymiw commented:

“It was a busy and productive day. The work our students completed will inform and inspire their developing practices and contribute to their Unit 1 coursework, as well as helping them to develop potential ideas for Unit 2.”

This visit follows hot on the heels of an overseas residential trip to Barcelona in Spain for Visual Arts students. The department have also been busy welcoming potential future students into College. 30 Year 11 students from schools across Birmingham and Solihull came onto campus for a twilight taster session last week, giving them an insight into what it is like to study a Visual Arts course at A level or BTEC.
