Trust Year 10 Taster Day — Solihull Sixth Form College

Trust Year 10 Taster Day

Principal Martin SullivanYear 10 learners from across the Summit Learning Trust family came together for a taster Day at Solihull Sixth Form College in July.

As young people from Cockshut Hill School, Lyndon School and Ninestiles Academy approached the end of their first year of GCSE study, they took a day out of school to visit the College’s Widney Manor Road campus in order to get a taste of post-16 study. These learners will be making their college applications this Autumn, so this day of taster sessions was a valuable experience for them to help aid them in making their choices.

Taster classes ran across a wide range of subject areas, including Maths, English, Biology, Chemistry, Business, Humanities, Social Sciences, Media & IT and Creative Arts. The College offers more than 40 subjects at A level, BTEC and T level, so learners have lots of choices for their post-16 education.

College Principal Martin Sullivan commented:

“It was fantastic to welcome Year 10 learners from our secondary academies onto campus for a day of taster sessions. I think all the young people who visited us with their teachers got a lot out of the day and I hope it has primed them for the important decisions about their futures that they are going to be asked to make when they progress into Year 11 this Autumn. I would urge those young people to visit us again at one of our open days in October or November.”

The College is staging an Open Day on Saturday 21 October (9.30am – 3.30pm) and registration for this event will open on the College website on 11 September 2023. There will also be an Open Evening on Wednesday 22 November (5.00 – 8.00pm). More information is available at www.solihullsfc.ac.uk/open-days.
