T Level Visit to Forest School

T level Education & Early Years learners at Solihull Sixth Form College visited a forest school recently to observe the learning that takes place there and try their hand at some outdoor activities.

Year 12 and Year 13 students went on to the trip to Beatle Woods Forest School. While at the Balsall Common school, they observed the children in their learning and participate in some forest school activities, such as mud faces, bark rubbing and hide and seek.

The owner and manager of the school talked learners through the ethos of forest schools, explaining that they offer children opportunities to explore through curiosity and be hands-on with the natural environment. This way of learning develops children’s knowledge, creativity, skills and most importantly, their confidence to manage risks and problem-solve.

One of the learners on the trip commented:

“This has been an amazing experience which has given me an opportunity to see and feel how this approach links to our learning. Allowing children to learn in this way is amazing. Who would have thought that learning in the outdoors, in all weathers would support all areas of learning and development? It has really inspired me.”

The T level in Education and Early Years involves classroom-based learning and a significant work placement. It is an industry recognised qualification, which means that learners can progress onto early years related employment, including primary teaching and learning support assistance.
