Health & Social Care and Childcare & Education learners at Solihull Sixth Form College have been finding out about some of the Higher Education courses they could move onto after they complete their BTEC and CACHE studies.
Chloe Upright, Alasdair McCarrick and Karina Butler from the School of Education and Social Work at Birmingham City University visited the College to talk to a lecture theatre full of Health & Social Care and Childcare & Education learners recently. The presentation focused on three possible undergraduate degree courses that our learners could apply for: BA (Hons) Working with Children, Young People and Families, BA (Hons) Youth Work & Communities and BA (Hons) Social Work. Learners discovered what the courses focus on and the sort of careers that graduates typically move onto after completing their degree.
Assistant Curriculum Leader for Sport & Health is Nosheen Hamid. She commented:
“We’re grateful to Chloe, Alistair and Corinna for giving up their time to come onto campus and speak with our learners. Most of our learners are hoping to progress onto university, so it is useful for them to learn more about the options open to them. This presentation gave them a chance to consider three degree courses that they might not previously have considered.”
Both BTEC Health & Social Care and CACHE Childcare & Education involve work placements, which will also give our learners an opportunity to explore possible careers, including teaching, nursing, paramedics, midwives, occupational therapists and social workers.
