Physical Theatre Showcase — Solihull Sixth Form College

Physical Theatre Showcase

Talented Drama learners at Solihull Sixth Form College put on a showcase of physical theatre work this week in front of an audience of friends and family ahead of their practical assessments.

Year 12 A level Drama students have been exploring three contrasting plays from three different contexts to not only widen their repertoire of theatre, but to challenge them. This term, students have been learning about Berkoff’s surrealist style of theatre and exploring ways to communicate meaning through the actor’s body.

At the Showcase, alongside their performances of ‘Metamorphosis’ by Steven Berkoff, students also presented extracts from ‘What the Butler Saw’ by Joe Orton, which is a two-act farce that combines genteel dialogue and shocking action.

Drama teacher Nadia Kouhi commented:

“Our young people have had limited time to produce these performances and I have been astounded by the commitment, motivation, talent and teamwork they have demonstrated over the past few weeks. They have made an excellent start to their A level course.”

Year 13 learners will also be staging a Showcase later this term. Their performances of their final assessed pieces will take place on Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 March at 6.30pm. Tickets will be available from the Drama department in March.

Also in the Creative Arts department, A level Music students will be showcasing their own compositions at a Composition Exhibition on Tuesday 19 March at 6.30pm.
