Nine Shirley Lions Awards — Solihull Sixth Form College

Nine Shirley Lions Awards

Nine compassionate students at Solihull Sixth Form College received awards from Shirley Lions this week for voluntary work they have completed.

Awards are available at bronze, silver and gold levels, depending on the number of hours of volunteering that learners have completed. Many of the students are part of the College’s Student Council, while others have joined the Volunteer Society at the College. Their aim, like that of the Shirley Lions, is to give their time and support to their local community.

The nine young people getting awards this term were Khadija Sahal (125 hours), Besmala Elsayed (102 hours), Sara Hadi (72 hours), Meena Ahmadzai (44 hours), Alina Islam (40 hours), Malayka Malik (34 hours), Shifaa Mahmood (32 hours), Elma Gull Akhtar (29 hours) and Hinnah Safa (28 hours). Among the activities they volunteered to help with are open days, charity fundraising and a community Iftar.

Ken Barker from Shirley Lions and College Principal Martin Sullivan were present to hand out the awards to students. Martin Sullivan commented:

“It makes me proud to see our learners giving up their time to help others like this. Their dedication in supporting the College and their fellow students is inspiring to see and gives me confidence that they will go on to achieve great things in their lives.”

Ken Barker added:

“On behalf of Shirley Lions, I congratulate these young people on receiving their Young Leaders in Service awards. Through their hours of service they have exemplified the true spirit of Lionism and made their community a better place to live.”
