Musical Compositions — Solihull Sixth Form College

Musical Compositions

Music learners at Solihull Sixth Form College performed at the Spring Composition Exhibition at the end of the Spring Term, showcasing music they have composed themselves.

The exhibition provided a platform for first and second year A level Music students, to present their composition work to a live audience. Learners who take part in musical activities as an enrichment were also present to entertain the audience with performances from their bands.

Composing represents 30% of the marks on the A level Music course. The musicians must produce a composition of at least 3 minutes in length either to a brief or a free composition, as well as producing a chorale harmonisation in the style of J.S.Bach.

Music teacher Catherine Douglas commented:

“The exhibition was a fantastic celebration of the composing talents of our young people and showed just how much hard work learners have put into their creations. They were understandably nervous to showcase their work, which was so personal to them, but I’m proud of how well they all did.”
