Culture Week Celebration — Solihull Sixth Form College

Culture Week Celebration

Staff and students at Solihull Sixth Form College have been celebrating Culture Week. This week celebrates the diverse communities, heritages and cultures that represent staff and students at the College.

Following the Coronation Bank Holiday, an afternoon tea took place with Tim Watts, Deputy Lieutenant of the West Midlands Lieutenancy, in attendance.

Later in the week, attention turned to the Fashion Show. This celebrated the 20+ cultures that make up the College community. Staff and students were encouraged to come onto campus in their traditional cultural dress and many showed off these outfits on a catwalk in the College lecture theatre. Culture boards were displayed in the Refectory giving everyone an opportunity to gain a greater awareness of cultures different to their own.

Culture Week ended with Fun Day on Friday 12 May, which was a final chance for Year 13 learners to let their hair down and enjoy some fun ahead of examinations. There were games and activities, as well as a range of food stalls for students to choose from. Among the activities were a photo booth, tombola and glitter tattoos. All money raised will be going to the YMCA.

Anisa Lokat-Fanning, Associate Assistant Principal commented:

“Culture Week is a fantastic celebration of the diversity of our College community. So much hard work went into making the week a success and the Student Development Team and Student Council are to be congratulated.”
