College Awards Evening 2023 — Solihull Sixth Form College

College Awards Evening 2023

Staff, students, parents and carers at Solihull Sixth Form College came together to celebrate the successes of this academic year this week, as the annual Awards Evening took place at the Core Theatre in Solihull.

Teachers faced difficult choices, as they were asked to select just one young person per A level, BTEC and CACHE course we offer for a prize. A range of students were also honoured for extra-curricular achievements, including sporting success, exceptional progress and representation of Student Council. Shirley Lions were in attendance at the event and handed out prizes for volunteering, with gold, silver and bronze awards given depending on the number of hours the students had committed to volunteering.

Interspersed between the awards, there were examples of students work for guests to enjoy, including a music performance, a journalism recital and two Media music videos created by learners.

Five Outstanding Service awards were also handed out to staff. Each member of staff has accrued at least 17 years of service to the College and when added together the combined years of service totalled 150 years.

Martin Sullivan, Principal of Solihull Sixth Form was joined by colleagues from Summit Learning Trust, including trustees and governors. The Mayor of Solihull Councillor Diana Holl-Allen MBE was also there to recognise the achievements of our young people.

Principal Martin Sullivan commented:

“The annual Awards Evening is always a lovely event. It’s a chance to take stock and reflect on what has been achieved ahead of the publication of exam results in the summer. I want to congratulate all those who won awards and pay tribute to the rest of our community, because the awards represent just the tip of the iceberg as far as the achievements of our learners.”
