Collaboration with Coventry University

Solihull Sixth Form College has secured ongoing support from Coventry University for a valuable piece of careers software to support learners’ progression after they complete their A level, BTEC or T level education.

The college has enjoyed a productive collaboration with Coventry University over many years, and formally since 2022 through the Phoenix Partnership initiative, with the university now contributing towards a two-year subscription to the Unifrog Higher Education software and database package.

The collaboration has seen Coventry University supporting the college in a variety of ways, including visits by their staff to campus to support our learners on results day, delivery of personal statement workshops and student finance talks, and attendance at the college’s summer careers and higher education fair. They have also provided support for the college’s pre-medical school enrichment in the form of a wider NHS careers presentation. This support package has seen over 300 learners from Solihull Sixth Form College secure places at Coventry University in the last four years.

College Principal Martin Sullivan said:

“We highly value our relationship with Coventry University and their focus on breaking down barriers to university progression has been demonstrated not only by the support they offer to our learners, but by the little extras they do, including offering free transportation to university open days and subject taster events. As well as their undoubted support for our young people, they have been a huge support to colleagues too, providing training and support for our academic coaching, careers and other support staff.”

Danny North, Regional Student Recruitment Specialist at Coventry University, added:

“We are delighted to have Solihull Sixth Form College on board as a valued Phoenix Partner. We have worked alongside the college for several years and it’s great to acknowledge a strong working relationship between the college and ourselves, which has seen us provide students with a platform to help them with their next steps after college with access to Unifrog which I hope all students will benefit from.”

Elizabeth Verner-Pollard, Area Manager for Unifrog, said:

“We’re super excited to be working with Solihull Sixth Form College to support their students to make informed decisions about their futures. As a certified B Corp, working with 57% of UK state secondary schools and colleges in the UK, our mission is to level the destinations playing field.

“We do this by helping students to explore their interests, compare apprenticeships, FE courses and university courses, then apply successfully. We also empower careers leaders and teachers to manage work experience, PSHE, and the careers and progression process effectively to make sure that every young person reaches their best next step, whatever their background.”
