Musicians at Solihull Sixth Form College got everyone in the mood for Christmas with a festive Christmas Concert this week.
Learners taking A level Music were joined by students who participate in musical activities as an enrichment option for the showcase. There was a Christmas theme to many of the songs performed, with favourites like ‘Merry Christmas Everybody’ by Slade and ‘Santa Claus is Coming to Town’ by Jackson 5. Several students took on solos and there was a Jazz Trio and a Brass group performing, as well as several student bands.
Catherine Douglas, Music teacher at the College, commented:
“This was the second public showcase of the term, following the success of the Heartfield Wharam Scholarship Concert back in October. We had some fun with this concert by giving it a festive twist, but there is a serious part to these public performances too, because it’s great experience for the students taking A level Music. Performing is 30% of their A level mark, so practice in front of an audience is invaluable.”
The next public performance will see Music students showcasing their own compositions. This Spring Showcase will take place on Tuesday 19 March at 6.30pm in the College Theatre H201. Admissions is free of charge.
