Humanities Research School — Solihull Sixth Form College

Humanities Research School

*New for 2022/23*
Enrichment Overview

As part of the Humanities Research School you will have the opportunity to research and debate the challenges of the 21st Century and to complete an EPQ qualification. Each term there will be a visit or a guest speaker, and we will encourage you to enter your work and research into national competitions and student publications. You will also have the opportunity to take part in ‘Model United Nations’ events. This will give you an excellent grounding in the skills required to study for a degree in any Humanities subject and fantastic evidence for your university, apprenticeship or workplace application.

Why choose this enrichment?

According to the philosopher Professor AC Grayling, “If a society knew no history, it would have no sense of its present and no resource to navigate its future. The humanities stretch, develop and mature our sympathies and our understanding of what it is to be human.”

How long will the enrichment last?

September 2022-July 2023.

How much time a week will it involve?

One period per week with termly visits by speakers and university trips.

What will it cost?

Attempts are made to keep costs to a minimum. There will be occasional costs for transport to venues.

Who can sign up?

Year 12 students of Geography, Geology, History, Philosophy and Religious Studies. Year 12 students who are interested in global issues and challenges and who are curious to develop their knowledge and understanding of the world. Anthropocene Adventurers!

How do I sign up?

At enrolment, or through recommendation in the first few weeks of Year 12 if there are spaces available. It is not possible to do another enrichment alongside this.
