Summit Learning Trust Announces Full Participation in Government's Free Breakfast Club Scheme

Summit Learning Trust is pleased to confirm that all its primary schools – Erdington Green Primary School, Yarnfield Primary School, Pegasus Primary School, Kineton Green Primary School, and The Oaklands Primary School – will take part in the government’s landmark free breakfast club initiative.

This historic programme, set to roll out in April 2025, will provide primary-aged children across the trust's schools with free, nutritious breakfasts and at least 30 minutes of free childcare, offering invaluable support for families and enabling parents to get to work more easily.

The initiative, which will initially benefit over 180,000 children across England, is designed to ensure no child starts the school day hungry.  It will have a direct impact on reducing costs for parents, putting as much as £450 a year back in their pockets.  These breakfast clubs will provide children with healthy, varied meals ranging from porridge to fresh fruit and yoghurt, with activities designed to enhance learning, including arts, crafts, puzzles, and reading.

Research shows that when children aren't distracted by hunger, they are better able to concentrate and engage in their lessons, which leads to improved outcomes.  Starting the school day with a nutritious meal can make a significant difference to children's focus, allowing them to thrive and flourish in their studies.

Summit Learning Trust is also committed to addressing the challenges faced by vulnerable families through its Base Camp initiative, which offers comprehensive support to ensure that every child’s basic needs are met, both academically and personally.  This initiative includes free breakfast provision across secondary schools, access to a warm, supervised space before and after school with Wi-Fi and charging points, health and hygiene products, and assistance with free school meal applications.
