Admissions FAQ

The deadline to apply for a place in September 2026 was 31 March 2026. Any late applications will now be held on a waiting list and if we have availability for interview we will be in touch.

Firstly, make sure you fully complete the application. Contact details for you and at least two parents/guardians are essential – this includes contact numbers and email addresses. When you add your qualifications, take your time to make sure you are choosing the correct one. For example, GCSE Double for Combined Science. If you are studying a BTEC or OCR National qualification, make sure you select the correct qualification type i.e. BTEC First Award. If you are unsure, check with your teacher.

There are two parts to the application form where you need to write about yourself. Use full sentences for these sections and check your spelling, punctuation and grammar. You should write a paragraph for each question.

We offer a wide range of Level 3 courses, with A Level, BTEC and Technical Level 3 courses. Before you send us your application, research the different course and programme options. Our programme options have different entry requirements. You can check these on our Courses page on the website.

You should only apply for the courses you wish to study so do your research carefully.

Our aim is to send email confirmation that we have received your application within two weeks of your submission. We are currently experiencing very high levels of enquiries, so if there is a delay please bear with us as we work through new applications as quickly as we can. Please note the initial email you receive from us will not include an invitation to interview.

Your application is really important and you should complete it accurately with as much detail as possible. You will be invited into college for a face-to-face interview with a member of staff if your application indicates that you are likely to meet our entry criteria. This is nothing for you to worry about but it is important that you show yourself at your best. You should be ready to explain why you would like to study with us, why you have chosen your courses and a bit about you so you can show that you would make you a great student at Solihull Sixth Form College. Interviews take place from January onwards and you are at no disadvantage if you are interviewed later in the year. Please see our Interview Guidance information.

Read the course information on the website first – detailed A level and BTEC/T Level course information is available. You can discuss any changes in courses when you come to interview.

Not at all. It does not matter when you receive your offer. Students who receive an offer in January and those who receive one in April/May are in exactly the same position. If you get a conditional offer from us – regardless of when the offer was made – you will get your place provided you get the grades needed to meet the college and subject entrance requirements, as well as a suitable reference from your school.

Nothing! We will contact your school to get a reference on your behalf, so you don’t need to chase this. We might ask you to provide your mock exam grades to help us when we advise you on what the best programme of study is. Please keep checking your email to see if you get any emails from the Admissions Office about this or anything else related to your application.

All offers we make are conditional. A conditional offer means that you need to meet our requirements in order to enrol with us. This means achieving the exam results to meet the college and subject entrance requirements, as well as a suitable reference from your school. It is important that you focus on getting the best possible GCSE grades at school, so that you can start here with confidence and enthusiasm.

We provide all students with another individual interview as part of enrolment, with guidance to ensure that everyone is embarking upon the most appropriate course. At the enrolment interview, you will also be required to make a firm commitment to the enrichment course you choose. As soon as you receive your GCSE results, you will need to upload your results by logging in to your application account and you will be able to book an enrolment interview to take place the week after GCSE results are published (either Tuesday 25 August or Wednesday 26 August) if you meet the College entry requirements. You will receive details of how to do this in an email we will send you before GCSE results day.

Please email the Admissions Office or call us on 0121 704 2581 before enrolment. If you are unable to attend enrolment we may not be able to hold your conditional offer subject combination beyond enrolment dates.

If you do not meet the subject specific entry criteria, but do meet our general core entry criteria then you will still have a place with us, but we will have to consider new subject(s) dependent on your grades and spaces on alternative courses.
