Round Table Event Promotes Alternatives to University
Learners from Solihull Sixth Form College joined parents and carers to attend an Employability Round Table event on campus last week.
Students who are looking for alternatives to Higher Education attended to hear from two employers about the options open to them after they finish their studies at the College. In attendance were two apprentices from law firm Bevan Brittan, as well as three representatives from the NHS and Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Trust.
Mary Cunningham, Careers Co-ordinator at the College, commented:
"We are grateful to Bevan Brittan and the local NHS Trust for providing speakers to talk to our learners and parents. Demand was high for an event of this kind and we were delighted to be able to host the event. Approximately 75% of our young people choose to progress onto university each year, but we also support students into employment and onto higher apprenticeships and offering events that guide them into the right choices are very valuable."
Careers guidance starts before learners have even enrolled at the College, with expert advice available for prospective students at open events.
