Relationship Reset National Summit

Young people from the Summit Learning Trust came together for a #RelationshipReset national Summit recently, as they joined learners from other schools and college to discuss how to reduce sexual harassment and keep people safe.

#RelationshipsReset is a student led campaign which aims to shine a light on the issue of sexual harm that impacts children and young people. On Friday 14 March learners from five multi-academy trusts representing thousands of young people came to together to share the work they have been doing for the past three years on raising awareness of sexual harm in schools and colleges and on public transport. Students from Solihull Sixth Form College were joined by learners from Lyndon School and Ninestiles an Academy at the College campus.

This learner-led conference was supported by the Mayor of the West Midlands, Richard Parker, who filmed a special video recognising and endorsing the work of #RelationshipsRest learners from the Summit Learning Trust. The three areas that learners have been working on include safer travel on the buses by having robust reporting procedures, a website that contains resources for the consent curriculum that teachers can access for PHSE lessons, and a charter which has been signed by the CEOs of the five multi-academy trusts. The charter is a collective - and public - commitment to ensure that there is zero tolerance approach to sexual harm of our children and young people.

Anisa Lokat-Fanning, Associate Assistant Principal has been leading on this project across the Summit secondary academies and the College. She commented:

"Learners from Summit Learning Trust have been impressing staff and local stakeholders with their ideas and solutions, and it was wonderful to also hear that other young people across the country have also been doing likewise. These learners are committed to addressing this urgent issue, and it has been wonderful to see them embracing this with a sense of responsibility and activism. We are looking forward to working closing with the Mayor and the West Midlands combined Authority."
