Media Workshop with BBC Studios
Media Workshop with BBC Studios
Film and Media learners at Solihull Sixth Form College recently took part in an inspiring seminar with BBC Studios Drama Productions.

The workshop was led by Andy Richardson, Training Operations Manager, and Donna Stocks, Business & Resource Scheduling Coordinator at BBC Studios Drama Productions. The session saw students given a behind-the-scenes look at how drama is produced at the BBC and explored the wide variety of professional roles and career pathways within the organisation. As part of the visit, students were challenged to create their own scripts and storyboards for an original drama concept, an engaging, hands-on task that allowed them to put their creative skills into practice and experience elements of professional pre-production.
Alongside the creative activity, Andy and Donna offered valuable advice on pursuing careers at the BBC, including information on apprenticeships, entry level roles, and development opportunities. They also shared practical tips on CV-writing, preparing for interviews, and making a strong impression when applying for positions in the media industry. Learners described the workshop as informative, motivating, and thoroughly enjoyable.
The visit was especially timely, as students will soon attend the College’s Higher Education Fair on 24 June, where the BBC will host a dedicated stand. This will give learners another chance to explore career options, ask questions, and deepen their understanding of opportunities available within the organisation.
Media & IT Curriculum Leader Rasbinder Gill said:
“Opportunities like this are incredibly valuable for our young people. Hearing directly from industry professionals at BBC Studios helps students connect their classroom learning to real-world careers, while also giving them the confidence to explore roles they may not have previously considered. We are very grateful to Andy and Donna for sharing their expertise and inspiring our future creators.”
