Learners Showcase Acting Talent with Drama Showcase

Aspiring actors at Solihull Sixth Form College recently showcased their talent in a powerful devised drama performance for friends and family.

Second-year A Level Drama & Theatre students presented a piece entitled “She’s Just a Girl”, which traced the journey of a woman from birth through adulthood. Each scene explored a different challenge faced by women and girls in today’s society, tackling hard-hitting issues such as drink spiking and sexual violence. These themes were approached with sensitivity, using the distinctive style of The Paper Birds, a contemporary theatre company known for addressing socio-political topics through non-naturalistic performance.

Drama Teacher Nadia Kouhi commented:

"This was an assessed performance for our Year 13 learners. Practical work forms a significant part of their final A Level grade, so the pressure was on to deliver something exceptional. It was inspiring to see our students collaborate so effectively to create a piece of theatre that truly moved its audience."

Further assessed practical work will be done later in the academic year.
