Learner Explore the Psychology of Gift-Giving

With Christmas just around the corner, A level Psychology students at Solihull Sixth Form College delved into the fascinating reasons why humans exchange gifts, thanks to an insightful talk from the University of Worcester.

Dr Daniel Farrelly, Principal Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Worcester, visited the College to explore the science behind this age-old tradition. His presentation examined academic theories from renowned figures such as Niko Tinbergen and Charles Darwin, encouraging learners to consider historical, developmental, functional, and biological perspectives on gift-giving.

Jon Psaila, Assistant Curriculum Leader for Psychology, commented:

“We are extremely grateful to Dr Farrelly for sharing his expertise with our young people. With many of us buying gifts for loved ones this festive season, the talk was both timely and thought-provoking, helping learners reflect on the motivations behind gift-giving from personal and historical viewpoints.”
