A pair of talented female cricketers from Solihull Sixth Form College recently showcased their skills on the international stage, representing England at the Emerging Stars of Indoor Cricket tournament in India.

Twin sisters Emily and Rosie Ward spent a week in India during October half-term, where they played in four matches and helped England to win the tournament with an undefeated record. They were selected after being spotted playing for Indoor team Jamia. The girls have also been playing outdoor cricket for Earlswood Cricket Club since they were six and seven years old respectively and were both part of the creation of the indoor Earlswood Eagles team.

Rosie specialises as a bowler, while Emily is an all-rounder with a preference for batting. Both girls aspire to get into the full England squad and take part in the World Cup in Cape Town, South Africa in September 2026.

Rosie commented:

“I take a lot of my aspirations from Marie Kelly, who grew up playing for Earlswood and went on to captain Warwickshire. She helped me grow my confidence within the sport and showed me how to raise the profile of women and girls' cricket. I also love watching Sam Hain and Adam Hose, as they helped me get into cricket by showing me how quickly the game can change.”

Emily added:

“Players that inspire me in indoor cricket include Leo Ward, D'nica Roff, Anish Patel, Zar Sulliman and Akeel Hussain who all help support my development in indoor cricket. I also wish to carry on promoting and supporting women and girls' cricket alongside expanding the knowledge of indoor cricket.”

While cricket remains a major focus, both sisters have career ambitions beyond the sport. Rosie is hoping to study Law at university when she finishes her A level studies in Law, Geography and Psychology. Meanwhile, Emily is aiming for a career in primary teaching when she finishes her T level in Education & Early Years course in 2027.
