College Promotes Health & Wellbeing at Fair

Solihull Sixth Form College welcomed representatives from a host of health and wellbeing charities onto campus for the benefit of its learners recently.

The annual Health & Wellbeing Fair took place at lunchtime on Wednesday 8 October so that young people from both Year 12 and Year 13 had the opportunity to visit and talk to representatives from charities like Kooth, Papyrus, Umbrella, NHS Talking Therapies, Solihull Carers Trust, West Midlands Police and Birmingham & Solihull Women’s Aid.

The focus was on maintaining a healthy lifestyle and taking care of your mental health and wellbeing. There were free resources and literature for learners to pick up and experts to chat with. The College’s own support services were also highlighted to students, including our counselling service, guidance from Academic Coaches, help from Additional Learning Support, the programme we have in place for Young Adult Carers and the range of enrichments on offer.

Mental Health Lead Bobbie Pidgeon organised the event and commented:

“I’m so grateful to all the charities and support networks who gave up their time to come into College and talk to our young people. Being a teenager comes with lots of stresses, both in and out of college, and it’s important that our students know that help is available if they need it. By helping our students take care of their health and wellbeing, we are putting them in the best position to achieve their potential on their courses too and improve their future life chances.”
