Welcome to College Day is taking place at Solihull Sixth Form College this term to ensure all prospective students with offers get a chance to learn more about the College in preparation for their start with us in September.
Comprising an online taster day on Thursday 30 June and an opportunity for in-person campus tours on Friday 1 July, the event follows the conclusion of GCSE exams and give Year 11 students who are progressing into Year 12 at the College this autumn the chance to ensure they have made the right choices for them. the online tasters will see teachers taking students through what they can expect for each course, detailing the sort of topics taught, to teaching methods and expectations of students. The tasters will take place over multiple time slots so that no matter the combination of subjects that students are studying, they should have time to attend a taster in all the subjects they hold an offer. Time will be left for questions in each taster and the sessions will be recorded so if students want to learn about a new course, with a view to requesting a change, they can do so.
Enrolment of new students takes place on 31 August and 1 September, once students have their GCSE results. no changes to courses will be made until this point, but students are encouraged to request changes after Welcome to College Day if they want it to be considered. While we endeavour to accommodate requests to change, these cannot be guaranteed, as it will depend on whether students meet any subject-specific entry requirements and whether there is room on the course.
The campus tours on Friday 1 July are open to students with offers accompanied by a parent or guardian. Tours will be conducted by teachers and will last about 30 minutes. They will show off both academic and social space and teachers will be able to answer questions along the way.
