Creative Arts learners at Solihull Sixth Form College were celebrated for their achievements at the Visual Arts Exhibition this week.
Every student on the BTEC Extended Diploma in Art & Design Practice and A level Art & Design courses exhibited a selection of outcomes. The work exhibited covered a huge range of disciplines and specialisms from Fine Art painting to Textile Design, from Photography to Architecture and from Graphic Design to Installation. The work also explored a wide variety of subject matter and themes. Staff members, learners, parents, carers and special guests attended the Private View on the evening of Tuesday 11 June, with learners from our Music enrichment performing to entertain guests.
The Visual Arts department handed out awards to learners at the Private View, with prizes given for all four Visual Arts courses (BTEC Art & Design practice, A level Art & Design – Fine Art, Graphics and Photography pathways). Among the young people recognised for their outstanding work were Year 13 learners EJ Hughes (Fine Art), Alishba Riaz (Graphics & 3D Design), Freyja Wells (Photography) and Connie Griffiths (BTEC). Four students were also recognised for their work in developing their independent learning skills and they were Jake Waters, Tegan Hinckes, Sara Saran and Seren Jones. Fellow learners Vincent Bettam Smith and Keziah Fatade were named Stars of the Creative Arts department for their contribution to the department and their peers.
In addition to recognising the talent and hard-work of our departing Year 13 learners, Year 12 students were also given awards, with Robin Riley and Heather Wilkinson recognised for their achievement and effort in Creative Arts. Finally, three students were presented prizes for their Photography live brief project, which saw their artwork selected for exhibition at the Sixth Form Colleges Association’s online exhibition – they were Taran Uppal, Robin Riley and Ruby Zaw-Morton.
Creative Arts Curriculum Leader Zoe Maksymiw commented:
“All the hard work that went into putting on this year’s Visual Arts Exhibition was worth it. I’m so proud of the entire Creative Arts department for their commitment and dedication. The standard of the artwork on display is fantastic and highly professional. It was wonderful to see so many parents, carers and other guests at the private view to see the artwork and support our young people.”
Anyone wanting to view the exhibition this year is asked to call the College on 0121 704 2581 and ask for the Creative Arts department. The artwork will be available to view until 21 June.
