Sixth Form Awards Evening 2024

Sixth Form Awards Evening 2024

Learners, colleagues, parents and carers at Solihull Sixth Form College were joined by some very special guests this week, at their annual Awards Evening, which took place at the Renewal Centre in Solihull.

The College was honoured to host two Deputy Lieutenants of the West Midlands Lieutenancy – Clive Stone and Everton Burke OBE – at the event, as well as the Mayor of Solihull Councillor Shahin Ashraf MBE and Mayor’s Consort Jehangir Malik OBE. They were present to offer their support to sixth formers, who were being recognised for their efforts and achievements in both academic and extra-curricular settings. Afshan Ahmad, Admissions Lead at Aston Medical School, handed out the prizes to students.

Awards were given for each of the A level, BTEC or T level courses that the College offers. Teachers faced difficult choices, as they were asked to select just one young person per subject. A range of students were also honoured for extra-curricular achievements, including sporting success, exceptional progress and representation of Student Council. Shirley Lions were also in attendance at the event and handed out prizes for volunteering.

Interspersed between the awards, there were examples of students work for guests to enjoy, including two music performances, a journalism recital and a music video created by a Media Studies student and a video of the College’s Team Gambia volunteer project.

Four Outstanding Service awards were also handed out to staff. Each member of staff has accrued at least 14 years of service to the College and when added together the combined years of service totalled 89 years.

Principal Martin Sullivan commented:

“The annual Awards Evening provides an opportunity to reflect on what has been achieved during the academic year. I’m very proud of all our young people and those honoured at this event were just the tip of a very large iceberg. I’m now looking forward to the publication of exam results in the summer, when I am confident that learners will be rewarded for all their hard work and determination.”
