Schools Athletics Finals

Sports leaders at The Sixth Form College, Solihull put their skills to the test last week as they worked with local school children at an athletics event in the borough.

A group of first and second year students on the College’s BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport course attended the Coventry Solihull & Warwickshire Indoor Sports Hall Athletics Finals at the North Solihull Leisure Centre. They were there as officials, ensuring the athletics events ran smoothly and fairly. They did this in addition to their BTEC course and have previously officiated in the heats which were hosted in College.

The Year 13 students who attended have also taken part in delivering a multi-skills programme in local primary schools this year. They have received positive feedback from South Solihull School Sports Partnership Development Officers and Valley Primary School for the work they have done with the children. The feedback was that, “the children all really enjoyed the activities and said how funny the sixth formers were”.

Curriculum Leader Lee Jones commented:

“The students were a credit to the College. They enjoyed working with the children and have developed some great team-working and leadership skills by being involved.”
