Two Photography students at The Sixth Form College, Solihull have been learning what it’s like to work as a freelance photographer by taking on a live brief from an engineering event.
Second Year A level Photography students Alisha Brooker and Luke Mears attended the Midland Engineering Dinner at the NCC in October, as sponsored by JCB, to work as the official photographers for the event. They were tasked with producing photographs of the event, which were projected onto big screens on the night.
Curriculum Leader Zoe Maksymiw commented:
“The Midland Engineering Dinner was a black tie event and the students’ commission to be the official photographers for this event was a fantastic example of the work of a freelance photography. I was so proud of the professionalism that Alisha and Luke showed and the photographs they produced were excellent. We are grateful to the organisers of the Midland Engineering Dinner for agreeing to be a part of this live brief, which is invaluable to the students’ development.”
As well as Photography, the College offers A levels in Fine Art and Graphics and a BTEC Extended Diploma in Art & Design. Live briefs form an important part of all of the Visual Arts courses, giving students the opportunity to develop the skills that employers are looking for.
Any prospective student wishing to learn more about our Visual Arts courses can attend the College Open Evening on Thursday 15 November (5.00 – 8.00pm, last entry at 7.30pm). All prospective students must be accompanied by a parent or other adult and we encourage students to pre-register to attend online.
