Open Evening – 20 January 2020

Principal Martin SullivanFollowing two successful of Open Events in October and November, Solihull Sixth Form College is opening its doors to prospective students and parents for the final time before the application deadline on Monday 20 January for an Open Evening. Online pre-registration is now open.

The College will be open from 5.00 – 8.00pm, with a last entry time of 7.30pm and all prospective students are asked to come accompanied by a parent or other adult. The event provides young people from Solihull and Birmingham the opportunity to see the range of more than 40 courses on offer and the support offered. With the application deadline of 31 March looming, this is the perfect opportunity for pupils and parents to get advice so they are in a position to make their application before the deadline.

Teachers and current students in all our A level and BTEC courses will be available to talk to prospective students and parents at this event and give them more information about what these courses involve and what exciting careers and university courses they can lead to.

College support services will also be on hand to talk to visitors, with staff available to discuss Careers, Employability, Additional Learning Support, Academic Coaching and Enrichment. In addition, representatives from Birmingham City, Coventry, Southampton and Warwick Universities will be at the Widney Manor Road campus for the event, helping students to decide what are their most appropriate subject choices with particular careers or university courses in mind.

College Principal Martin Sullivan commented:

“We’ve seen a lot of prospective students already this year, with good turnout for both the October and November events, but we know there is a lot of interest in Solihull Sixth Form College. This event is a third opportunity for young people in Birmingham and Solihull to find out more about the post-16 choices available to them so they can make informed choices.”

As well as all the A level and BTEC courses we offer, the College will also be showcasing its impressive range of enrichments. A number of Higher Education institutions support the College’s Specialist Academies, which are enrichments run to support students with particular career ambitions. These academies include a Pre-Medical School, Shakespeare Academy, Psychology Research School, Humanities Academy and Social Sciences Academy. Enrichment activities in sport, drama and student-led activities are also available.

Pre-registration for Open Evening will remain open until 12.00pm on Monday 20 January.
