Solihull Sixth Form College is welcoming prospective students and parents onto campus on Saturday 19 October when their first Open Day of the year takes place. Online pre-registration is now open.
The event provides young people from Solihull and Birmingham the opportunity to see the range of courses and services on offer. The College will be open from 9.30am – 3.30pm, with a last entry time of 2.30pm and all prospective students are asked to come accompanied by a parent or other adult.
With more than 40 courses to choose from at A level and BTEC, the College offers one of the most diverse range of subjects for post-GCSE students to choose from in the region. Teachers and current students will be available to talk to prospective students and parents at this event and give them more information about what these courses involve and what exciting careers and university courses they can lead to.
College support services will also be on hand to talk to visitors, with staff available to discuss Careers, Employability, Additional Learning Support, Academic Coaching and Enrichment. In addition, representatives from Leicester and Southampton Universities will be at the Widney Manor Road campus for the event, helping students to decide what are their most appropriate subject choices with particular careers in mind.
College Principal Martin Sullivan commented:
“This is the first of three open events we will be staging in the coming months and it provides young people in Birmingham and Solihull with the opportunity to get a taste of college life. They have a bewildering range of opportunities available to them and the options can seem a bit overwhelming. However, open days provide a fantastic opportunity for these young people to learn more about the options open to them so they can make informed choices. We are looking forward to welcoming many of these young people into College at our Open Day to show them what we can offer to help them get to their preferred career or university destination.”
As well as all the A level and BTEC courses we offer, the College will also be showcasing its impressive range of enrichments. A number of Higher Education institutions support the College’s Specialist Academies, which are enrichments run to support students with particular career ambitions. These academies include a Pre-Medical School, Shakespeare Academy, Psychology Research School, Humanities Academy and Social Sciences Academy. Enrichment activities in sport, drama and student-led activities are also available.
Pre-registration for Open Day will remain open until 4.00pm on Friday 18 October.
