It’s proving to be a great season for the sports teams at Solihull Sixth Form College, with both the football and netball teams progressing to the latter stages of the National Cup.
For the netball team, after reaching the Final of the AoC Regional Tournament Under-21 Tournament, they have now reached the Quarter-Finals of the National Cup with a 60-21 win over Loughborough College. This followed a 59-21 win over Charnwood College in the previous round. In addition, earlier this term they also secured an impressive 65-55 league victory over Hartpury College, one of the leading sports colleges in the country! They also secured wins against King Edwards Stourbridge and Dudley College this term.
There has also been Cup success for the 1st Football Team. They are into the Quarter-Finals, thanks to a 3-1 win over Bolton College. They won after extra-time, thanks to goals from Finley Gaynor, William Steward and Jack Long. In the previous round, the boys came from 2-0 down to win 5-2 after extra-time in a game against Dudley College.
The Basketball Academy, run in association with City of Birmingham Rockets, has also remained unbeaten this term, including securing an impressive 118-33 victory over Walsall.
Sports Activities Co-ordinator Jez Ingram commented:
“It’s been a great season so far and all our players have been working so hard. The Netball and Football teams are having a particularly great run of success, while the Basketball Academy’s association with the City of Birmingham Rockets continues to go from strength to strength. It’s great to see all their hard work rewarded.”
