Composition Showcase — Solihull Sixth Form College

Composition Showcase

Music students at Solihull Sixth Form College performed at the Easter Showcase at the end of the Spring Term this week.

The Showcase provided a platform for first and second year A level Music students, as well as those taking part in Musical activities as an enrichment, to present their composition work to a live audience.

Composing represents 30% of the marks on the A level Music course. Students must produce a composition of at least 3 minutes in length either to a brief or a free composition, as well as producing a chorale harmonisation in the style of J.S.Bach.

Music teacher Catherine Douglas commented:

“Performing in front of a live audience is a nerve-wracking thing at the best of times, but presenting and performing their own compositions was especially daunting. However, the students rose to the challenge and the Showcase demonstrated what terrific work they have been producing as part of their studies.”
