The Student Development Team at Solihull Sixth Form College have been busy in the Spring term, raising money and awareness of various important causes, with more than £788 raised for charity.

The Student Council and the College’s LGBTQ+ Society have raised £358.92 for the Terrence Higgins Trust. Among the items sold for charity were cakes, sweet cones, flowers, badges, and tattoos all made by the students. In addition, the Student Council supported Comic Relief with a bake sale on Red Nose Day, which raised £90. Finally, £339.77 was raised for the Disaster Emergency Committee’s Turkey/Syria Earthquake Appeal. In total £788.69 was raised or charity. Alongside the charity donations these events raised awareness and educated staff and students.

Other events the Student Development Office and Student Council supported included World Book Day and they liaised with local charity Sewa Day West Midlands, by redistributing donated food parcels to the most in need families.

Associate Assistant Principal Anisa Lokat-Fanning commented:

“After raising more than £1,000 in the Autumn term, it’s great to see staff and learners coming together again to support and educate once more. I am so proud of the work of the Student Council and many of our fantastic student societies, ably supported by the brilliant Student Development team. They are a real force for good!”
