Green Light For Merger

The boards and governing bodies of The Sixth Form College, Solihull and Ninestiles Academy Trust have voted to proceed with the amalgamation of the Sixth Form College into the Trust.

This will now be reviewed by the Secretary of State and, if approved, is expected to take place on 1 August 2017.

The decision by both boards and governing bodies comes following a period of public consultation between January and March this year to staff, students, parents and stakeholders.

Under the Further Education Act 1992, the College will dissolve and transfer its property, rights and liabilities to Ninestiles Academy Trust, creating a pioneering partnership which will be the first Multi-Academy Trust of its kind in the country.

Ninestiles Academy Trust currently comprises  seven schools across Birmingham and Solihull – Ninestiles An Academy, Erdington Hall Primary School, Lyndon Secondary School, Pegasus Primary School, The Oaklands Primary School, Yarnfield Primary School and Cockshut Hill School.

The Trust and College first began to discuss the Sixth Form College joining the Trust  in early 2015. Later the same year the Government recommended the incorporation of the college into the Trust following a review of Further Education in Birmingham and Solihull.

The College and Trust jointly submitted a formal application to the Department for Education after their Governing Bodies unanimously voted in support of the incorporation in December 2016.

The Sixth Form College, Solihull Interim Principal, Martin Sullivan said:

“This is an exciting time for the College, and I would like to thank the students of the college, their parents and the wider community for their continued support as we continue to deliver the very highest standards of education for our students.”  Cathy Anwar, newly appointed CEO of the Ninestiles Academy Trust, added that she was “very pleased that the outcome of the consultation had been so positive and looked forward to working closely with the Sixth Form College as the amalgamation into the Trust progressed”.
