Graphics students at The Sixth Form College, Solihull have been commissioned to design a poster for the College’s Summer Art Show and the winning poster was announced this week.
First year A level Graphics students were given four weeks to complete the project. They visited Birmingham City University to work on the project, getting advice from expert illustrators there. Student Jake Reeves-Yates’ design was picked as the winning poster, with fellow student Waleed Butt selected as the runner-up.
Creative Arts Curriculum Leader Zoe Maksymiw commented:
“I’m really proud of all our Graphics students for the work they have produced. Staff at BCU spoke very highly of the work they did with them and the resulting posters are excellent. It was difficult to pick a winner, but I liked the use of typography and the way the design summed up the Visual Arts department in Jake’s poster and that is why his design was selected.”
The Summer Art Show takes place on 19 – 22 June, when artwork from A level Fine Art, Graphics and Photography students, as well as that of BTEC Art & Design students, will be exhibited. Students will be exhibiting a rich range of work covering all disciplines including fine art, sculpture, illustration, photography and textiles to name a few.
Jake’s design will be printed using screen printing and reproduced in large format across the College to advertise the exhibition.
