Business and Accounting students at Solihull Sixth Form College visited the headquarters of pub management group EI Group in Shirley this week.
EI Group are the UK’s biggest pub management group, with over 4,000 public houses to their name. First year students on the Business and Accounting A level courses went on the trip and were introduced to the Marketing, Human Resources, Finance and Communications departments, learning more about what these roles entail. They also received key advice regarding careers and recruitment in the industry.
The students honed their teamwork and leadership skills in the morning, and then put these skills to the test when they were asked to devise a socially or environmentally responsible initiative for the pub group. They pitched their idea as a group to the Head of Communications.
Michael Rennie, Business teacher, commented:
“What an engaging and informative day! Students rose to the challenge of developing new and exciting ideas for EI to take forward, whilst also being immersed in the culture of one of Solihull’s biggest public limited companies. We are grateful to EI Group for giving up their time to work with our students.”
