Music students at The Sixth Form College, Solihull received specialist mentoring from a current student at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire last week.
A level Music students enjoyed one-to-one sessions with Oli Parker from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, who provided practical tips on composing as well as targeted feedback on our students’ compositions, to help them improve their work. Composing forms 30% of the final A level grade, so is a significant part of our students’ assessment.
Music Teacher Chris Phelps commented:
“We’ve been lucky enough to have students from the Birmingham Conservatoire come into College to help our students for a number of years and it’s always a really useful exercise. The Conservatoire students are not much older than our current students and yet their experiences of being at a prestigious music college means they can offer invaluable advice. I know those who received one-to-one advice really felt the benefit.”
Away from the composing side of things, students will be practicing their performance skills at a Christmas Concert later this month. Taking place on Wednesday 12 December at 7.00pm, this concert is free of charge and tickets are available by telephoning 0121 704 2581 or emailing Central Admin.
