Sporty sixth formers at Solihull Sixth Form College enjoyed an afternoon of friendly competition this week, as Sports Day took place.
The event was organised by the Sports department and open to all learners who wished to participate. There were 100m and 400m races, throwing competitions and of course egg and spoon races, with both male and female competitions. Medals were awarded for those that came first and second, with the winners being Daniel Amoussou-Ojomo and Lauren Ashley.
Sports Activities Co-ordinator Michael Westmacott organised the event and commented:
“It was great to see so many learners get involved in Sports Day and participate with such enthusiasm. I’m also grateful to the staff and students who volunteered to help run the events.”
Sport is one of the enrichment options on offer to learners. The College has competitive sports teams in Basketball, Cricket, Football, Netball and Cricket, and enjoys collaborations with the City of Birmingham Rockets Basketball Club and Moseley Rugby Club. Recreational sport is also catered for with weekly opportunities to play Ultimate Frisbee, Indoor Football and Badminton among the activities on offer.
The Sports Day and the regular recreational sporting activities that take place are not only an opportunity for learners to get involved in the wider College community, but also a chance to get away from studying and concentrate on their physical and mental wellbeing.
