CBSO Youth Orchestra

Music students at Solihull Sixth Form College visited Symphony Hall recently to see the CBSO Youth Orchestra, including one of their classmates, performing.

David Harris is currently in Year 13 and is studying A level Music, as well as A level German and History, and he is part of the CBSO Youth Orchestra. He played Violin 1, performing a programme of Berlioz and a world premiere by Snæbjörnsdóttir, at the CBSO Youth Orchestra concert at Symphony Hall.

Music teacher Catherine Douglas commented:

“It was such a pleasure to see David performing at such a great venue as Symphony Hall and lovely to have his classmates there supporting him. It’s a huge achievement to get a place at such a top Midlands orchestra and we are very proud of David.”

The former Light Hall School student has ambitions to continue his musical studies once he finishes his A level studies this summer. He hopes to take up a place at the Royal Northern College of Music in September.

There will be an opportunity to see David and his fellow students performing at the College’s Easter Showcase and Composition Exhibition on 21 March 2023 at 7.00pm in the College Theatre H201. Learners will be showing off their own compositions at this showcase and friends, family staff and interested members of the public are welcome to attend. Admissions is free, but there will be a retiring collection to raise money for the Music department.
