A talented Musician at Solihull Sixth Form College has successfully auditioned for a place with the CBSO Youth Chorus.
Kathryn Welch (aged 18 from Shirley), who was previously part of the Children’s Chorus at the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, has stepped up to the Youth Chorus thanks to a successful application process. She sang a folk song entitled “The Water is Wide” and completed some sight reading and listening exercises to get her place.
Her involvement with the Chorus will involve rehearsals every Monday from the New Year and she can look forward to lots of exciting concerts not only at Birmingham’s prestigious Symphony Hall, but also at concert venues up and down the country and even abroad. 2019/20 is the CBSO’s centenary year and among the celebrations are Christmas Concerts and a performance of Britten’s “War Requiem”.
This success comes on the back of a recent success in College, when Kathryn won the Heartfield Wharam Scholarship Concert auditions. She is currently studying A levels in Film Studies and Sociology, alongside her Music studies and hopes to continue her Music studies at university next year.
“I currently have two university offers for Music and an interview for another university. I’d like to work for a record label or maybe do some film music composing. I’m currently part of the Young Composers project at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and I’m hoping that by doing that and being part of the CBSO Youth Chorus, I am improving my chances at university and beyond.”
