Visual Arts students at The Sixth Form College, Solihull have been tasked with designing posters for the Performing Arts department this year.
Music and Drama students have been putting on public performances this term and to help promote the Easter Concert and Drama showcases, Visual Arts students have designed the promotional posters.
Lauren Weaver, student on the BTEC Extended Diploma in Art & Design course, designed the posters for the Year 13 Drama Showcase. This included five different posters to represent the five different plays being performed, including “Jane Eyre”, The Glass Menagerie”, “Kinderstransport”, “The Lovely Bones” and “Be My Baby”.
Mia Beddoes, a fellow BTEC Art & Design student, produced the posters for the Easter Concert. Like Lauren, she produced multiple designs, which focussed on musical instruments, records and other music-related imagery.
Both projects have been live briefs, as all students in the Visual Arts department are given a project to give them an idea of what working as a freelance artist for a client is really like.
Curriculum Leader Zoe Maksymiw commented:
“Our students have never faced a live brief project like this before and knowing that they had a real client they were working for was a huge motivation for them. They produced some wonderful work and helped the Performing Arts department and fellow students at the same time.”
As well as BTEC Art & Design, the College offers A levels in Fine Art, Graphics and Photography.
