Gifted Visual Art students from The Sixth Form College, Solihull have been showcasing their photography work in College this term.
Students on the BTEC Art & Design course have been doing a unit on Studio Photography and were given a live brief to give them an idea of what working in the field of photography and design is like.
The students have spent the last term producing posters for this Studio Photography Assignment. They were asked to photograph people and still life, which could be used in a feature or on a magazine cover. It was also the students’ responsibility to organise an exhibition of this work in the College’s Costa Coffee bar and to organise a Private View to celebrate its opening.
The students chose objects like food, shoes and jewellery for their still life, while people featured primarily on mock magazine front covers for magazines like Vogue, i-D and Dazed.
Curriculum Leader for Creative Arts, Zoe Maksymiw added:
“I have been so impressed with the standard of work our students have produced for this project. We had a professional photographer in College recently to work with our A level students and he took a look at this work and was blown away by it. The skill shown not only in the photographs taken, but also in the way the finished features and front covers have been designed look so professional.”
