Apprenticeship Hub Webinar — Solihull Sixth Form College

Apprenticeship Hub Webinar

Media and IT students at Solihull Sixth Form College attended a Zoom webinar last week to learn about Media and IT apprenticeships.

The purpose of the webinar was to give students the opportunity to find out about the new BBC Apprenticeship Hub, based in the West Midlands. Offering six new apprenticeship schemes, the BBC Apprentice Hub gives young people the opportunity to learn, create and develop not only with the BBC, but with other creative and digital companies across the West Midlands. The apprenticeship schemes that the Hub offers range from Software Developer to Media Production. As part of the webinar, students got to hear from a BBC apprentice about her experience and received tips for making their own applications.

Student Talha Ajaz attended the webinar and commented:

“I found it very helpful as I learned that I have more than one option after College other than university.”

Fellow student Sophie Silva added:

“It opened my eyes to the alternatives that there are to university and how they are great career paths that I could take. I found it interesting that the BBC Hub are looking for passionate people rather than only a portfolio or proof of work.”

The College offers A levels and BTEC courses in Media and IT-related subjects, with A levels in Media Studies, Film Studies and Computer Science, as well as BTEC courses in IT. All are Level 3 courses, with students progressing onto either university, higher apprenticeships or employment after two years of study at the College. This event was a good insight into one possible destination and the many fields of work it can involve.
