A talented basketball player at Solihull Sixth Form College has just been named to the ABL North All Conference First Team, following great performances this season.
Faaris is a BTEC Business student at the College and combines his studies with playing for the Basketball Academy, which is run in association with the city of Birmingham Rockets Basketball Club. He is the team’s leading scorer and star player and has ambitions to further his playing career in the future.
Faaris commented:
“I been playing basketball since the age of six, but I started playing competitive basketball at age 12. I enjoy it so much because I like the competitiveness that comes with the game.
“Making the All-Conference First Team for the ABL North Conference is probably my biggest basketball achievement up to date, because it has really shown everybody that I am a top player in the league. However, my ambitions for the future are to make basketball my career and become professional, whether that is in the UK, in Europe or in America.”
Faaris will finish his BTEC studies at the College this summer and is still considering his post-College options, including possibly taking up a place at the University of Newcastle, where he hopes he can fulfil his dreams of becoming a professional basketball player.
City of Birmingham Rockets Coach Peter Mintoft commented:
“Faaris has been exemplary as captain of the College team and done much to further his development as a player and human being, as well as inspiring his teammates into greater levels of skill and teamwork. In our first ABL season, we were slow to start largely due to the effects of the pandemic, but gradually the team has sharpened up considerably and dished out a few surprises to some of our opponents. Faaris has proved to be an exceptional talent during this campaign and he boasts a variety of clever moves, fakes and finishes. He is also fits in well with the players around him, learns quickly and is often able to offer constructive suggestions. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to work with this young man. I wish him well on his exciting journey ahead.”
