Basketball & Netball Triumphs — Solihull Sixth Form College

Basketball & Netball Triumphs

The Sports department at Solihull Sixth Form College has three pieces of silverware to add to the trophy cabinet, following success for the basketball, netball and rugby teams.

The Basketball Academy, run in association with the City of Birmingham Rockets, won their league title with a game to spare, while the Netball team won the AoC Division 1 title. This followed hot on the heels of the Rugby Team’s success back in March, when they won a Mini-10’s Rugby tournament at Stourbridge Rugby Football Club.

The season has been successful from start to finish for the Basketball Academy. They won 10 of their 12 games this season, including securing victories over Aston Manor, Dudley College and Walsall College. They amassed 1,008 points over the course of those 12 games.

Basketball Academy Head Coach Steve Dudley, from the City of Birmingham Rockets, commented:

“It’s been an amazing season for this academy and I’m so happy I could help them to achieve their goals. I would like to thank Solihull Sixth Form College for the support they gave to me and the team and in particular a big shoutout to Mike and Lee from the Sport & Health department for supporting us. Basketball is thriving at the College now and long may it continue!”

Rob Palmer, Chief Executive Officer of the City of Birmingham Rockets added:

“This has been a super season for the team. It has been excellent to see the progress the team has made and a great achievement to win this league. Coach Steve Dudley and the players worked hard all year and have thoroughly deserved this success, demonstrating the successful partnership between the college and club.”

Meanwhile, the Netball team finished the season top of the AoC West Midlands Netball League 1, winning 10 of 12 matches, which included important wins over Thomas Telford School and Hereford Sixth Form College. The College’s 2nd Netball team also finished a very creditable second in Division 3.

Netball Coaches Sandra Rowland and Jo Tully commented:

“We are extremely proud of the players for their hard-work, determination and team spirit throughout the season. This outstanding success is their just reward.”

Curriculum Leader for Sport & Health at the College added his congratulations:

“All our sports teams have conducted themselves professionally and enthusiastically this season and it is great to see the basketball, netball and rugby teams picking up silverware.”
