The Visual Arts department at The Sixth Form College, Solihull have been celebrating another successful year of study by handing out awards to A level and BTEC students.
The Final Year Exhibition launched this week, with artwork from students on our four courses on display: A level Fine Art, A level Graphics, A level Photography and BTEC Art & Design. A Student of the Year was named for each class, as well as a runner-up, with 10 prizes handed out in total.
The winners were Jack Palmer and Gurvel Bhakar for Fine Art, Megan Weir for Photography, Charlotte Abbott for Graphics and Chloe Griffiths for BTEC Art & Design. Runners-up were Abigail Parker and Yasmin Tayab for Fine Art, Sophie Gould for Photography, Paige Coe for Graphics and Samantha Farrell for BTEC Art & Design.
Assistant Curriculum Leader for Creative Arts Tjark Schoenfeld, commented:
“It was really hard to pick out two students for prizes, because all the staff have been incredibly proud of the work that all the students have done this year. In the end, we have rewarded achievement and effort in handing out these prizes. Some students practically lived in the Art studios such was their commitment to their portfolios, and the results they have achieved have been outstanding.”
The Exhibition of students’ work remains open for public view until 23 June. Anyone wishing to view the artwork can do so by appointment only between 10.00am and 4.00pm by calling 0121 704 2581.
More prizes will be handed out in the coming week when the Arden Decorative & Fine Arts Society (Arden DFAS) come into College to judge the students’ work and award bursaries to those students they think are most deserving. As part of the exhibition the department will also be visited for a presentation by the fine art painter Stephen Earl Rogers, who’s painting was recently selected for the BP portrait awards.
