Learning Support

One to One Support
Students who have specific and specialist needs as a result of learning difficulties and/or disabilities are normally identified during the application process and receive specialist guidance. Referral is also possible throughout the year. Support is on a weekly one to one basis, usually one hour. Provision includes progress reviews, close liaison with subject teachers, dedicated parents consultation events & specialist career advice

Currently students go through a diagnostic screening process in September. This enables the learning support team to identify appropriate individual or workshop support.

In class support
Some students with particular learning difficulties and/or disabilities may receive additional in class support, including note taking, signing etc. Students on vocational programmes may receive additional in class support with their study skills.

Careers Guidance
All students are entitled to make use of the careers interview service on a self-referral basis, or may be referred by tutors. The College has two qualified careers advisors and an extensive careers library. Help is available with job search, UCAS applications, career planning and interview techniques.

Personal Counselling
The College has its own counselling service. This is a totally confidential service provided for students. Students who are experiencing personal difficulties or problems, whether at College or outside, can be referred to the Counsellor for help.

Youth Work
The College has its own Youth Worker who is able to support students through informal education. This involves activities such as residential trips, developing and supporting faith groups, sporting tournaments, non-residential visits, cultural awareness raising, and developing links with Solihull Youth Service.

Welfare Advisor
The College Welfare Advisor can provide a range of advice and support to students on welfare issues. These issues include accommodation, financial support beyond college, mental health difficulties and general health and welfare advice. The Welfare Advisor also supports a range of health promotion activities within the College as well as developing supportive activities for vulnerable students.
