Student Results

In August 2011, The Sixth Form College, Solihull celebrated outstanding results, including 119 A* grades.

The College has a reputation for excellent academic standards and that status has been maintained, with an impressive overall A Level pass rate of more than 97%.

Among the exam excellence, 536 students got all higher grades at advanced level (A-C at A Level or BTEC merit or above), of which 126 students obtained at least three or more A/A* grades at A Level or double/treble distinctions in applied courses. There are 579 top grades across our entire curriculum, with 529 A/A* grades at A level and 50 top grades on BTEC courses.

Outstanding results have been achieved across many subject areas. Indeed, there was a 100% pass rate in 30 advanced level subjects.

“Staff and students collectively share in celebrating what are outstanding results,” said College Principal Paul Ashdown. “These are very challenging qualifications, covering advanced ideas and requiring a significant amount of hard work to achieve these high grades, so I am both delighted and proud at what has been achieved.

“We are particularly delighted with the large number of A* grades achieved. It is difficult enough to get an A, but A* demonstrates exceptionally high levels of attainment.

“We are particularly proud to be helping so many young people progress onto university; we are the largest provider of young people to high education in the area. Competition to progress onto university is fierce, but we are proud to help so many to achieve that, including to many of the top universities in the country.

“I have worked very closely with those students who had aspirations to go to Oxford and Cambridge, because I know how hard it is to get an offer there, never mind to take up a place. I am delighted that we have succeeded in placing six students at Oxbridge, but equally proud of the number of students who are going to other very highly regarded universities.”

In total, 991 students have applied to go to university from The Sixth Form College, Solihull this year. These students are progressing to study a huge variety of subjects, from Law and Medicine to Architecture and Engineering and many more. 164 students have applied for Science-related courses, including Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Veterinary Science. A further 43 students have applied for various engineering courses; 41 are hoping to read Law; 36 to do IT or Computing courses and 108 to study Business, Management or Finance degrees.
