Summer Induction Day

Summer Induction Day is essentially a taster session for all prospective students who are hoping to join the College in September. We provide you with lots of useful information about the College, so you will know what to expect when you start your studies in the autumn. This will include giving you a tour of the campus and making you aware of some of the services and options available to you, including enrichment options.

When you arrive you will have a welcome coaching session first. In this you will be grouped with other students for an introductory session. You will then go on to have sessions in all the subjects that you have an offer in. Each session will include some fun activities to give you a taste of what the subject will involve. Of course, you will be meeting some of the teachers in these subjects and you will have an opportunity to ask questions, so if there is anything you are unsure of please speak up. There will be a break in the morning and time for you to have some lunch.

When is it?

Thursday 27 June 2013 or Friday 28 June 2013

This is a big event and takes place over two days. You only have to come in on one of those days and we will let you know which day that is in a letter we will send you in June. There will also be a timetable with the letter to show you when to go to particular subject sessions and which room you need to go to.

Why is Summer Induction Day important?

The step up from school to college is a big one and we want to make sure you are as prepared as you can be. Not only will you get a really useful insight into what the subjects you have chosen are really like to study, but we will be providing you with important information about what happens after you get your GCSE results and enrol at the College. It is compulsory that you attend this event, so if you don’t turn up you are putting your place at this College at risk.

What do I do if I’ve changed my mind about the subjects I want to study?

You need to give very careful thought to your choice of subjects. The timetable for Summer Induction Day that we send you will be for the subjects that you hold an offer in. We can’t change that on the day, because every session is full and there is not space for extra people, so it is important you attend each subject session, even if you think you no longer want to study it. Indeed, going along to those sessions will probably help you, as you can talk to the teachers and get advice. We will be running a help desk in the Refectory, where you can go and request a change of subject for September. We cannot guarantee that changes can be made, as it will depend on whether there are any spaces left on the course, but if you fill in a form we will consider it and final decisions will be made at enrolment in September.
