Open Morning at Sixth Form College

The Sixth Form College, Solihull is throwing open its doors to the public on Saturday 6 February 2010 for an Open Morning.

Open from 9.30am until 1.30pm (last entry 12.30pm), College staff and students will welcome prospective students and their families to its second Open event of the academic year. It is the first such Open Morning we have staged and replaces Open Evenings that the College has traditionally held at this time of year.

Back in November, the College staged its first event of the year and almost 1,500 prospective students attended Open Day with friends and family. This event is another opportunity for visitors to learn more about the College as young people think seriously about their post-16 choices. Staff will be available in all subject areas and current students will be on hand to talk to our visitors. College Principal Paul Ashdown will also be making presentations throughout the morning (at 10.00am, 10.45am, 11.15am, 12.00pm & 12.45pm).

Staff and existing students will also be able to celebrate the College’s success both academically and on the back of our recent outstanding Ofsted inspection - and showcase the superb teaching and outstanding facilities.

The College has a reputation for academic excellence; a 100% pass rate was achieved in 30 advanced level courses last summer, whilst 520 students achieved all higher grades. 130 students got at least three A grades at A Level or double distinctions in their BTEC courses and more than 850 earned places at university, including at Oxford and Cambridge. The College offers a wide range of Advanced Level subjects including A Levels and BTEC National Diplomas.

College Principal Paul Ashdown said, "We were delighted with how Open Day went in November. We had huge numbers of visitors throughout the day and I’m confident they all had a really positive experience and learned a lot that will help them make their important post-16 decisions. This event will provide an opportunity for some students to take another look, while others may be visiting us for the first time. We think it is important that young people are aware of all the options open to them so they can make the best decision for them and hopefully this event will help in that cause."
