Mayor Attendance At Open Morning

The Mayor of Solihull will be joining hundreds of students and parents this Saturday when The Sixth Form College, Solihull opens its doors for an Open Morning.

The Mayor, Councillor Norman Davies, and the Mayoress Brenda Davies, will be at the College from 10am, when they will be given a tour of the campus by current students.

The event is actually open from 9.30am until 1.30pm (last entry 12.30pm) and College staff and students will be available in all subject areas. Prospective students and their families will have the opportunity to talk to teachers and existing students, see the facilities and find out more about what is taught in all the courses.

The College offers an extensive variety of subjects at A Level, 44 in total, as well as a range of BTEC Diplomas.

There is a reputation for academic excellence. A 100% pass rate was achieved in 30 advanced level courses last summer, whilst 520 students achieved all higher grades. 130 students got at least three A grades at A Level or double distinctions in their BTEC courses and more than 850 earned places at university, including at Oxford and Cambridge.

College Principal Paul Ashdown said, "This event is our final open event of the year and will provide an opportunity for prospective students and parents to find out what the College is really like. We think it is important that young people are aware of all the options open to them so they can make the best decision for them and hopefully this event will help them."
